This unit has given me ideas and important reminders as to how and when to teach new vocabulary and new language structures. The application of appropriate ESA structures for certain lessons/topics was very useful and indeed the teacher must carefully evaluate the necessity and the practicality of the lesson plan for the topic at hand. It is very important to note the level of the students as well as the objective or goal of the lesson before coming up with activities for introducing new vocabulary and language structures. This unit has made me even more careful and aware as to when to use or introduce certain words, since there are factors that affect the easiness or difficulty for a student to learn a new word. These factors, as mentioned in the unit are 1) similarity to the student's own language; 2) similarity to English words that the student already knows; 3) the word's spelling and pronunciation; and 4) appropriateness (the applicability to the student's activity or job.)
