Unit 14 informs about authentic materials and created materials, and evaluates the different qualities in these and course textbooks. This unit also offers suggestions and resources for developing created materials, which may be used to supplement textbooks and other provided materials. By including some already-produced examples of created materials, this unit indicates which types of created materials are particularly useful for English foreign language learners. This is important because it can often be challenging for a new teacher to know which types of activities would be suitable to provide for students. The examples help to show which exercises typically help, thus preventing the creation faulty activities, which would result in lost time for the instructor and for the students. I'm curious if there are ways students can contribute to the creation of supplemental course materials, however. Would it be beneficial for students to create their own flashcards to take home and practice?
