This unit provided a detailed introduction of the four types of past tense: Past Simple, Past Perfect, Past Continuous, and Past Perfect Continuous. Each variation included positive, negative and question examples, as well as grammatical construction and fundamental rules on past tense formations. Having reviewed the present tense, I found the grammatical constructions in the text easier to understand and picked up on the explanations quickly. The comparisons in the video were valuable in showing how one thought is altered in different forms. In addition, the variations included useful examples of how and under what circumstances a specific tense is used. The lesson and video provided valuable activity suggestions ? especially in the form of using picture stories ? on teaching the differences among the past tenses. Finally, the video underscored the importance of activities maximizing student talk time, allowing students to use language freely, and focusing on using the target language.
