This lesson discussed teaching aids such as a whiteboard, electronic whiteboard, audio players, dictionaries, photocopiers, computers and Internet resources. Board work should be carefully planned beforehand, the writing should be clear and legible and the content accurate. IWBs are becoming increasingly popular in state schools, but like all technology it should be tested and teachers should have a plan B. Also, the technology is no substitute for a well-planned lesson, and basic teaching principles remain the same. Real objects, photos and pictures can also be used as visual aids in the classroom because they can help students to remember and stimulate discussion. CD players can help the teacher to quickly find the correct track, and DVDs or videos can provide useful visual cues to learners, but they still need to have a clear learning objective. Computers provide many learning opportunities such as writing emails or using reference tools, but should not be overused as the novelty may wear off.
