In this unit I learned about the importance of productive skills and how they can be caught effectively in the classroom. Some of the main reasons why student's may be scared to speak in class are due to many reasons, a few examples include lack of confidence, fear of making mistakes and peer intimidation. It's important that the teacher tries to create an environment where all the student's feel relaxed and willing and eager to answer questions and contribute to discussions in the classroom. I learned about a lesson plan format for this class; beginning with the engage phase where the students can discuss about weather in their countries throughout the year and compare it to other countries (or even the teacher's country). The study stage should elicit vocabulary related to weather (stormy, rainy, sunny etc) and student's are also given gap-fill exercises to complete. Finally in the activate stage the students create a fictitious country and describe the weather there on a chosen month of the year.
