Teach English in GuAnghui XiAng - Qiandongnan Miaozu Dongzu Zizhi
In this Unit 13, I have learned about pronunciation theory and phonology. I learned how intonation, stress and phonology greatly influences how language is spoken. Normally we use the rise/ fall intonation in the English language. However, even a small change such as using a fall/rise intonation changes the meaning to convey's the message that the speaker would like a response. As well, the implication of what the speaker wants emphasized has a great deal to do with which part of the sentence is being stressed. Stressing \"this\" In \"This horse is beautiful\" means you are speaking about that particular horse. However, by stressing \"beautiful\" in that same exact sentence is emphasizing the beauty of that particular horse. Moreover, I learned that the place that articulation occurs (bilabial, dental, palatal, glottal, etc.) along with the manner that articulation occurs (plosive, fricative, nasal, etc.) can greatly affect pronunciation by influencing which parts of the language is voiced or unvoiced.
