This unit covers lesson planning. Lesson planning is important because it is an add to planning, keeps the teacher on target, and a record of what the class has done. Basic principle include: simplicity, avoiding scripting, maintenance of structure, timing, flow, and flexibility. Practical things to make sure that the lesson goes smoothly include compiling materials and aids, checking equipment, arranging the seating, cleaning the board and chatting with the students as they enter the class. Included int he lesson plan are learner objectives, personal aims, language point, teaching aids, anticipated problems, procedure, phase f each activity, timing, interaction, class level, number of students, date/time, and the name of the observer. The unit gives an example lesson plan and form for teacher evaluation to monitor the quality of lessons. In planning a sequence of lessons it is important to consider flexibility, the goals, the need for revision of content from previous lessons and providing variet and balance.
