Teach English in Gedong Zhen [incl. YangAshA Jiedao] - Qiandongnan Miaozu Dongzu Zizhi
In this unit, all parts of speech were outlined and defined. What I learned from this unit was further terminology about English grammar, especially the types of adverbs and new names for types of prepositions. Learners often have their first contact with grammar when they learn a second language, especially if they are adults. I am a big fan of grammar and grammar instruction and love explaining it to learners, but I know that people are intimidated by it. Depending what a learner's first language is, they may experience difficulty with certain parts of speech in English that do not exist in their own language. When I taught English to Russian speakers, they were routinely curious to frustrated by definite, indefinite, and zero articles and required much review on this point. German speakers have difficulty with adjectives and adverbs because in German, \"gut\" can be the adjective \"good\" or the adverb \"well\". Prepositions also require many examples and much practice to help learners feel confident.
