This unit focused on many theories, methods and techniques for teaching English. Some of them have fallen out of favor, or may be used in a limited way in current best teaching practices,rather than as an entire methodology, mostly because by themselves they do mot fully address the complex needs of language learners. In the ESA methodology (engage, study, activate), students are motivated and engaged consistently, exposed to the languages, given many opportunities to use prior knowledge and then new language concepts, it provides teacher flexibility, and encourages appropriate use of student focused error correction. All three of these aspects, with appropriate students activities for each, is present to provide balance, but can offer flexibility for lessons to take place in many different orders, so long as they provide the key characteristics, including involving students in all areas,providing learning and engagement opportunities, and focused error correction, and consistent encouragement and communication.
