To be a good teacher you don?t need to be an extrovert, in fact a teacher who is too much of an extrovert can come across as an entertainer, rather than an educator. You need to make students feel comfortable, but also hold their attention. Using eye movements tone of voice and gestures to hold and direct their attention, but not make them distracted or feel overly self-conscious. When using student?s names make sure it is for an activity, or at the end of a lesson, to hold the whole class?s opinion. There are advantages and disadvantages to grouping together or pairing students up for projects or allowing them to work alone. Classroom arrangement, considering desk arrangement, size of class, nationality, and individual personalities is very important for effective teaching practices. Pairing weaker students with stronger ones, or arranging activities so that the students will learn from each other?s? strengths or keep problematic pairings apart, can be invaluable to an effective lesson.
