Teach English in Dayou Zhen - Qiandongnan Miaozu Dongzu Zizhi
This unit dealt with practical aspects of classroom management. Overall the goal seemed to be having a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere, yet orderly and productive. The teacher's physical expressions of voice, gesticulations, and eye contact can all influence the class. Also class behavior can be affected by the arrangement of the students. Working group size and the formation of the seating are factors. The relative position of the teacher to the class can change classroom dynamics. When not focusing on groups, the teacher must devote some time to each individual student. Ideally, the teacher may foster a harmonious class. There are bound to be some occasions for disciplinary action though. The teacher must not lose his or her cool when this happens. I gathered many general pointers for my prospective classroom from this lesson. In particular, I got to thinking about simpler forms of language that I can use. Coupled with gestures, hopefully I can get the message across to a room of people who have English as a second language.
