The general notion of Unit three was to go over several different methodologies teachers can use to create a better learning environment for their students. One of the most common methods teachers can use is the Straight Arrow ESA (Engage, Study, Activate) lesson. During the engage sequence the instructor will try to excite the students interests and get them associated with the lesson. Next is the study sequence where the students will concentrate on the language and how it is built, and lastly is the Activate stage where students are urged to utilize any of the language they know and convey it as freely as possible. While Straight Arrow lessons work well in most situations they don't work well in all of them so there are other methods instructors can utilize such as the 'Boomerang' ESA lesson and the 'Patchwork' ESA lesson. The 'Boomerang' method is useful in that it shows teachers what their students need before teaching the language, and the 'Patchwork' method allows for mini-sequences that should be used when the lesson isn't straightforward.
