Brief Overview: Receptive Skills are reading and listening. It is important to have these two skills and know why students need to learn about these skills. Two reasons why students learn about this skills are for either entertainment or a specific purpose. There are a few skills for reading and listening. They are predictive skills, specific information, general ideas, detailed information, and deduction from context. There are also a few potential problems for receptive skills such as reading word by word, sentence are too lengthy, the structure of the sentence might confused the students, the flow of the information while listening, the speed, and the accent of the teachers. To avoid all these problems, teacher needs to pre teach the vocabulary and grammar, carefully select the text, carefully select the topic, and create interest in students. This is an important unit and I've learned the importance of these skills to help the students to cultivate a new language. I learned the types of the skills, the problems, and how to solve it. The lesson plan examples are great as it shows the steps by steps of how to help the students to learn a new language.
