Being a TESL educator requires the teacher to be aware of his/her role in the classroom. This role may change, even in the course of a day, depending on the lesson being taught or the activity being performed. For example, I may begin the class as a Manager, explaining the day's lesson in front of the classroom, then take on the role of the Organizer, organizing the class into groups for an activity related to that lesson. In order to motivate and encourage learning, the teacher must also be aware of the multiple facets of the learner from their age and life & learning experience to their motivation for learning a new language. For example. I would not use the same basic lessons I would use for a beginner or very early learner who has zero or only basic knowledge of the language as I would for an advanced learner who is already proficient in the language, or vice versa. It is important to realize that there isn't just one way to teach, and there isn't just one universal lesson for all. Each learner is individual and unique, influenced by age, experience and culture. As a TESL educator, the learning of my students is the most important factor of my teaching.
