This unit dealt with the past tense and explained that, like the present tense there are four tenses within the past tense. These are past simple, past continuous, past perfect, and past perfect continuous. For each tense the form was examined. Such as with the past continuous the form it takes is \"I went swimming\". The verb go is changed to went, and the simple form of swim is changed to swimming to show its continuous nature. Additionally errors were looked at such as the commission of the verb to be, and so I was made aware of what to look out for when teaching this section to students. Further more activities for the activate stage of teaching were given for the tenses. Such as for the past perfect tense a good example of a game is to get students to tell a story, or for the past continuous tense an effective teaching method would be to get the students to play a detective game to find out what others were doing at a certain time or to get them to write a diary entry for a past time. This unit was helpful in understanding the past tense, as well as understanding how it relates to the present tense and what needs to change to move from one to the other.
