Teach English in NanxiAng Zhen - Nanning Shi
I thought there would only be four future tenses like in the units on present and past tense, so seven seemed a little daunting at first. However, it doesn't seem too bad. Two of the seven, present simple and present continuous, are the same as before but just with a few modifying words added to add a future meaning to the sentences. The \"going to\" tense is quite common, and the other four are similar to their counterparts in the other tenses. Having learned Chinese Mandarin, something I find interesting is the lack of tenses in the language. The time an event will take place is conveyed through context and additional words in the sentence. As I plan to teach English in Taiwan, I can already see how the idea of having so many different tenses for different situations would cause confusion. I imagine it is probably utterly baffling to a Mandarin speaker why we differentiate between whether an action is ongoing in the future or already ended. The key, I suppose, is providing enough input for these students so that they can absorb the differentiations and then providing enough practice through the \"activate\" stages to help the distinctions stick in their heads.
