This unit offered a lot of discussion on extra resources. Not only did it cover the benefits of certain resources, but it also gave examples of how to effectively use them and where to find them. For example, its suggested the use of podcasts when teaching audio-related lessons, perhaps on pronunciation, and that useful podcasts could be found on BBC. Youtube was also suggested as a vital source to find videos which would help teach a lesson and demonstrate certain points. This unit also discussed the disadvantages and advantages of some resources. For example, overhead projectors can be very useful - allowing the teacher to keep from turning their back to the class and allow for intricate use of materials - but it can also be troublesome to setup, operate, and make room for. Interactive whiteboards can allow for creative lessons but they also require the teacher to learn how to use them properly beforehand. One point this unit made was that when a teacher starts a new job, one of the first things they should do is familiarize themselves with the resource books available in their school. This point struct me as important and its something I'll be sure to adhere to.
