It is becoming more important to use realia, visual cues, and gestures as I progress through the units. These strategies help with giving instructions. They also help with the teacher to not overuse their TTT and overemphasizing instructions, which take up too much personal and group practice. The teacher doesn't want to confuse students either with too much talking themselves. The teacher should be aware of using the same language vocabulary when extending instructions. To maintain good student discipline when necessary, the first rule of thumb is to know the school's disciplinary codes. I believe this is most important because your obligation is to the school's standards as well as to the learning of the students. You can establish rapport with the students to keep good conduct amongst them too. If they feel less dominated and have more freedom to participate in leadership roles like writing on the board, correcting each other's work, ect, they will be less likely to act out. Ultimately, teachers are to balance and use judgement for the arrangements of the room, TTT and STT, and which visual and gesture communications to use (esp the universally understood ones).
