There are a few things I learned in this unit. Firstly, I learned that it is very important to establish rapport in a new class, which can be done by doing activities which involve the teacher and enables you to introduce yourself to the students, and the students to you. Secondly, I learned a few possible ways of dealing students of different levels in the same class. One possibility is to give more work to the higher level students; another possibility is to use different materials for the higher level students. A very good way of handling it is to pair weaker students with stronger students, so that the stronger students can help the weaker ones, so long as the stronger students don't do all the work for the weaker ones, which would cause the weaker students to not learn anything. Finally, I learned that it is not only good to not use the native language in the class, but it is also necessary to not respond if and when students ask a question in their native language. In fact, it is better if the students believe that you can't speak their native language, so that they will not be tempted to use their native language for something they could have said in English.
