Unit 16 takes the TEFL student into the grounds of more complex grammar structures to be taught to students in an EFL setting. Conditionals, on the one hand, carry a lot of complexities related not only to form, but also the meanings behind these forms: facts, intentions, hypothetical scenarios, and more. The Reported Speech, on the other hand, adds a more challenging component to the students, which is back-shifting verb tenses. Obviously, these grammar points are usually targeted to higher-level students. If we are looking for accuracy, we must be sure that the students are at the same pace of the lesson contents. Plus, we need to understand that the complexities of these will lead to students making a lot of mistakes, sometimes even errors; hence, we teachers need to be very patient. However, students might want to convey more meaning than what they can with their actual language structures. They might show more fluency-connected sentences, or communication-based manifestations, that teachers need to take advantage of. Following the ESA methodology is a good way to correct when needed and allow to make mistakes when being more creative or communicative in nature.
