This unit was much shorter and less in-depth than I expected, especially as it covered the topic of course books and materials. However, such a topic could take days to cover if one were to truly want to fully delve into it, and previous units did a good job of presenting sample materials for teachers (and did recommend that course participants refer back to those materials). The unit concisely introduced the authentic materials and created materials; although each could've been covered in more depth, with a little common sense, the course participants would be able to to add on more examples and characteristics of each type of material on the task sheets (however, oftentimes it IS dangerous to assume things...). It also looked into the what, why and how of course books, including the various advantages and disadvantages of coursebook.s I especially appreciated what I would call the 'O.R.S.A.' - the four different options when using a course book: omit, replace, supplement and/or adapt' . All in all, this unit serves well for an inexperienced teacher. The questions in the test relating to an ESA boomerang lesson should prove to be especially useful for any teacher.
