This chapter of the course outlined course development, including diagnostic tests, syllabus planning, various assessments and their purposes, and finally some standardized examinations. As I've mentioned in a previous reflection, I have been teaching English for some time already and have also earned a regular certification, so some of these practices are already familiar to me. However, I found it quite helpful to see these practices narrowed down to young children; this was, after all, why I wanted to take this course to begin with. I found a few items in particular enlightening. For instance, keeping one lesson more less blank in the syllabus in the event of schedule changes or a need to cover a particular topic. I thought this was extremely wise. Also, going over the the types of tests again was a nice refresher, and the explanation of some of the standardized exams at the end of the chapter was entirely new information to me. I knew nothing of any of these tests. To summarize, I'd say I found the sections discussing tests, when it's appropriate to use them, and what to use for them the most helpful and the most likely to change my classroom practices in the future.
