Based on my experience, my favourite line of textbooks are those by National Geographic. I was fortunate enough to have the whole set, from Beginner to Advanced level, available in the school where I used to teach. Those books not only had grammar points well summarised in each topic, but each topic also had a good mix of listening, writing, reading and video discussion exercises. Each topic would also feature a few really interesting articles that would not only improve students' level of English, but also their general knowledge. However, whenever I would prepare for a lesson, I wouldn't solely rely on the textbooks. They missed out on a few parts - the warm up exercises and variety of activities. So I'd still have to prepare cut-out cards to refresh some vocabulary at the beginning of the lesson, and think of some activity to conduct at the end of it. Also, during the lessons I often allowed myself to stray away from the main topic to go into more detailed grammar structure, according to the needs of the students. Another set of textbooks that I used were Team-Up. However, I found them too devoted to grammar and at some points too advanced for the level of the students.
