This unit was centred around lesson planning. It highlighted the importance of planning lessons in advance and the many benefits that come with doing so as well as a few of the mistakes that some teachers make when trying to plan. It gave an overview of how to plan a lesson effectively and in a way which does not make the class too rigid and inflexible. The unit also looked at the importance of monitoring and evaluating lessons as part of the planning and reflection process. I thought that this was a really important unit. Planning will ensure that a teacher's activities and study material is effective in helping the students achieve their objectives and progressing with their study of the English language. It also helps the teacher feel more confident and secure in their teaching which is extremely beneficial to the student's learning. Evaluation and reflection is also essential as it allows a teacher to recognise the progress made so far and what still needs improvement as well as helping them understand what kinds of activities seem to be most effective and which ones don't work as well. The unit also provided some excellent material to help me plan for any of my classes.
