This unit gave me good insight into the different roles of the teacher and how important it is to be able to fluently switch between these roles to benefit the learner. These are roles I would have been familiar with but I would not have been able to label them or explain them concisely before partaking in this unit. I was delighted to come across the phrase 'student-centred learning' as I believe this approach is essential in developing lesson plans and delivering a topic to students. It highlights that although you may be teaching the same topic to 5 different classes in one day, the lesson could look very different depending on the students in front of you. I enjoyed learning about the difference between adult and young learners. Understanding these differences will make me more conscious when developing lessons. For example, games with lots of movement and visuals may benefit very young learners, relevant, trendy and current topics of discussion for teenagers and a maybe a more conversational approach for adult learners. Descriptors of language levels is also useful to know as a way of tracking progress, identifying learning level and when collaborating with other teachers.
