This unit gave me the sense for the type of attitude a teacher needs to have in order to encourage productive skills in the classroom. It's essential that students feel comfortable enough to speak because if they don't, then they have no real way to iterate and experiment with what they've learned in the classroom. A teacher should allow a certain amount of space for students to make mistakes, I believe, in order to draw students out. This is also helped by having a genuinely interesting conversation topic, or by a teacher's nuanced understanding of what cultural topics to avoid or to focus on in order to have a free-flowing activate stage.
