Unit 6 Past Tenses touches on how to express the different forms of past events in English. Past simple is used to express an action completed at a definite time in the past (i.e. I walked my dog yesterday). Past continuous is used without an exact time and conveys instead a gradual progression of an event (i.e. The storm was gathering). Past perfect form expresses an action that occurred before another action in the past (i.e. Before I arrived, he had already called). Past perfect continuous form relates to a past ongoing action that is continued up until the past moment. The past tenses are structured similarly to the present tense forms.
