This unit covered the productive skills of speaking and writing. It explained the difference between accuracy and fluency skills and gave examples of how these could be taught as part of a ESA lesson. It looked at such things as spelling, writing layout and different registers - e.g. more or less formal. It gave some useful information about how traditional games can be adapted for use in teaching productive skills. I found the guidelines about how to encourage free creative speaking particularly useful. I feel that the more 'free' an activity, the more it needs to be prepared for, so that it doesn't end up losing its focus and structure.
