This unit outlined the four major past tenses that we use in the English, being past simple, past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continuous. Once again, I was reminded of how many irregular verbs there are in English. Unbeknown to me, the word ?ago? is usually associated with the past simple tense. Similarly, words like ?after? and ?when? can indicate that an action is completely finished in the past perfect tense. Lastly, I realized that auxiliary verbs like ?to be? and ?to have? might seem rather arbitrary to speakers of other languages. This may be a topic to spend some time on.
