I think I found this unit particularly confusing because I am not sure how different English is in reported speech from other languages. I think that because I am a native speaker, I don't have to understand how to put these structures together, I can just do it. Because of that I wonder how much of these reported speech patterns are intuitive. I wonder how much students can pick up on these structures based on what they know about the tenses. But I can also see how, if I was so confused reading about reported speech and how to create those forms as a native speaker, English students must be very confused by trying to learn these structures.
