Teach English in Zhuanshui Zhen - Meizhou Shi
This unit covered a lot of material of which I did not previously know about. It discussed the ways in which you could evaluate your own teaching and the overall class efficiency - e.g. tutorials, evaluations/surveys by the students - as well as certain ways you could test your students in order to assess their knowledge and progress. The different kinds of tests include: placement tests, which help you to place a student correctly according to their language level; diagnostic tests, which can also help to place a student, identify their level, and help a teacher prepare lessons/material; progress tests, which help a teacher understand how each student is doing up to a certain point and if the information is being retained or forgotten; and practise tests, which help prepare students for external examinations. It is often required by schools that a student's progress be recorded and pre-formed tests be used. If schools do not have ready-made tests then it is up to the teacher to either use the material from the course book, if there is any, or form a test of their own (perhaps from unused exercises). The unit discussed in detail the different forms of external examinations, of which I did not previously know about. They include such tests as TOEFL (Teaching of English as a Foreign Language) and a few others. Furthermore, the University of Cambridge has established tests to grade fluency. These tests are divided into categories of skills for life, business-related, and general ability. Skills for life and business-related categories of tests are more complex than some of the tests of the general ability category. The unit also mentioned how there are numerous more tests available. It only discussed a few of the more prominent ones.
