Teach English in Zhourui Zhen - Meizhou Shi
The Unit elaborates the various past tenses; the past simple, the past continuous, the past perfect and the past perfect continuous.Aspects of these tenses are discussed with examples for clarification. For the past simple tense we see the unit gives its formation for regular and irregular verbs which are; for regular verbs (a) affirmative; we add -ed or ?d to base form of verb (b) negative; we add did not before the base from of the verb (c) question; we add did plus subject before the base form of the verb. For irregular verbs there is no rule for creating them but a note is also made for the verb ?to be? which has two forms according to person; ?was? used with I,he , she and it. And ?were? used with you ,we and they. The unit gives the formation for past continuous, past perfect and past perfect continouswith differences in the auxillary verb and form taken.the past continuous form uses ?was/were? ( I was running ).the past perfect form uses ?had? ( he had gone ) and the past perfect continuous uses ?had plus been ( she had been running ) The unit also gives a number of usages for these tenses ,common mistakes and errors and sample activate stage teaching ideas like matching present tense of verbs with their corresponding past tense to teach the past simple tense and others. From this unit I have learnt that when ?ago? is used in a sentence the tense involved will probably be the past simple tense.I aslo now know past continuous almost always requires a time refernce except with gradual development usage for example, the snow was getting heavier, with no time reference as oppsed to ,they were dancing when I arrived.
