Unit 8 - Brief overview. Unit eight covers all the future tenses, their forms, usages and common errors or mistakes often associated with their usages. It also covers other forms, such as be going + infinitive, present continuous, and present simple in their future sense. As I think will be useful for me, I have learned the explanation of the differences in usage between future continuous and future perfect continuous; also how the present continuous and present simple could be used with future meaning. The unit also shares some light on the subtle differences that there are between the future forms shall and will. Most importantly for me I have learned some practical ideas for teaching these grammar areas in the classroom Future simple: It basic auxiliary verb is will The future simple has many usages. It can be used to convey the following ideas: Promise ? I will call you tomorrow Speculation/assumption ? Stuck prices will rise in six months time Spontaneous decisions ? I?ll answer the door don?t bother Etc. Future continuous in comparison to future perfect continuous emphasizes actions in progress at a said time in the future, while the future perfect continuous emphasizes the duration over which an action will have been on going at a particular time in the future. Future perfect emphasizes completion before a particular a said time in the future. Be going to ? is used for predictions based on some physical signs. It can also be used to express intention and plans. The present continuous when used with a future meaning often refers to future arrangements. I?m seeing consulting the law firm on Friday. Present simple with future meaning will often refer to time-tabled or scheduled activities in the future.
