Teach English in TAngkeng Zhen - Meizhou Shi
During the lessons teachers can use course books or prepare all materials by themselves. Materials that could be created by teachers can be divided into two groups: authentic materials (authentic magazines, films, songs, etc; not designed for the EFL students; they?re not graded for level; authentic materials are more interesting and motivating, students gain confidence when they understand them, materials could be geared to the interests of a particular group of students) and created materials (crosswords, picture stories, flashcards, role-play cards, etc; can be graded to the level of the students) Course books usually include student?s book, workbook, cassettes, teacher?s book, videos, other published materials (test books, reading books, learner dictionaries, vocabulary flash cards). Course books provide syllabus which is graded to a level suitable for the students, also provide a balanced mix of grammar, vocabulary and skills work. Moreover, the materials will have normally been tried and tested before publication. Course books are usually attractive and appealing to the eye. But in another hand, course books don?t always fit the specific needs and interests of all the class members. The students may not like the book and might be reluctant to use it. Using of course book can become very predictable and boring for the students. Another problem course books can make teachers lazy, and stop them from being creative. There are four different options for course book use: omit, replace, supplement and adapt. If teachers have to use the course books they will probably need to analyze these factors: price, availability, design, methodology, skills, difficulty, syllabus, topic, teacher?s guide and what ancillary materials are there.
