Teach English in SAnjiao Zhen - Meizhou Shi
Unit 7 starts with an explanation about four important things students need to do with a new language; to be exposed to it, to understand the meaning, understand its structure and to be able to practice it. To expose someone to a new language often means to introduce someone to new vocabulary. Vocabulary represents one of most important skill necessary for learning a foreign language. Vocabulary is the main tool for the students in their attempt to use English effectively. The teacher has an essential role in helping students to improve their vocabulary. When selecting it we have to take into consideration; if it?s appropriate to the students, if it?s appropriate to the task or lesson, frequency of use and coverage and teachability. Nowadays, there is more freedom in choosing the methods to be used during English classes. Here, in this unit we learn more about ESA method. In addition to vocabulary, students must also be introduced to grammatical structures. They have to understand the meaning ? what the language means, the usage- how the language is used, and the form- how it changes between spoken and written form ? ?I do not want to? vs. ?I don?t wanna?. When teaching about language functions such as inviting, refusing, agreeing or disagreeing, suggesting, we also can use ESA lesson or boomerang lesson. ESA approach implies alternating between Engage, Study, and Activate as much as we need and having the stress more on activation of language. In conclusion, I guess there are no exact rules. Every English teacher may focus more on one part or the other. In my class, I think, I have to feel what?s the most necessary and appropriate for my students and build the lesson according to the situation.
