First of all, I have learned about the commonly used methods in teaching EFL. I also discovered that there are certain methodologies that prove to be most effective in the current EFL practices. In my personal teaching experience, I find the Audio-Lingualism, PPP, CLT, and CLL most effective since they are applicable to lower level and intermediate students. These methods utilize repetition drills, studying of concepts, controlled practice, and a stage where they can express and utilize the language they have learned. I appreciated the lesson on the ESA method. It gave me new ideas on how to go about a certain lesson by applying various stages in my lesson plan. I learned that a lesson need not be rigid by simply following the straight arrow ESA lesson. I can be creative by applying the Boomerang or the Patchwork lesson. I also gained new ideas about the various activities I can apply for every stage of the ESA method. It was also a refresher for me because I have done most of those activities in my previous classroom lessons. One of the things I found most useful was the topic on correction. It was very important for me to understand the difference between a mistake and an error and when to correct them in the Study stage of the lesson. Correction techniques (self-correction/student-student/teacher-student) were also very informative and I can apply them to my online lessons with Japanese students (except the student-student since my lessons are just on a one-on-one basis.) It was also interesting to learn about the correction for writing. Though I usually just use Skype and some of its formatting options (bold and italic) to correct my students' answers, perhaps I can try applying the symbols in my corrections for their answers the next time we have a writing exercise.
