Teach English in JiAocheng Zhen - Meizhou Shi
This last unit covered different problems that a teacher may come across in a class and taught ways of how one can handle those issues. There was a section on how to deal with students who did not feel comfortable with participating in lessons, a section devoted to how a teacher can assist those who have difficulty understanding listening texts, and a section on how to ensure that all students within are getting equal treatment. However, the two sections that I found to be most valuable were the ones on first lessons and \"warmers\" that can assist with each class. The first lessons section stated how first lessons is important for establishing a strong rapport between students and the teacher. From past experience with my own schooling, I am familiar with how the first lesson is good for introductions. This is where the teacher and students introduces themselves to one another before the teacher proceeds with reviewing the course syllabus. This unit, however, states that in no way should any course material should be discussed right away in the first lesson. Instead, the first lesson should be used only for figuring out the English level of each student and why they desire to learn English. The teacher should then use this information to form the rest of the course. I fully expected that one should always have everything fully prepared before even starting the course, but the course should be dependent on the students and should change based on their needs. The section on warmers was the second section that I also found to be really useful. I have heard of using \"attention getters\" before, although they are usually stories used in speeches to get the attention of the audience. The list of activity suggestions that can be used as \"warmers\" will be helpful when teaching a course.
