Teach English in DiAofAng Zhen - Meizhou Shi
Students should be introduced to a new language in a balanced and manageable way .We can easily introduce new language by applying the ESA methods. We use grammar, vocabulary and functions to introduced a new language. Vocabulary is very important to students at the early stages when students are motivated to learn the basic words .A typical \"straight arrow\" structured ESA lesson is used to teach vocabulary; engage-study-activate. In vocabulary students need to know the meaning ,use, word grammar, interaction, spelling and pronunciation of items. In grammar ,the language structures we introduce are largely determined by the level of the class and course syllabus. The meaning of the language ,how it is used, the grammatical form and how it is said or written .A typical ESA patchwork lesson is use to teach grammar. Engage- activate-study-activate-study-activate. Language functions includes areas such as inviting ,egreeing and disagreeing ,refusing and suggesting. To teach language functions we need the appropriacy of the language, terms of the kind of language they use-formal, informal, tentative. An ESA boomerang type lesson is used to teach function. Engage-study-activate. I learned that to teach new language, we use grammar, vocabulary and function. Also , there are four things that students need to do with new language ;be exposed to it, understand its meaning, understand how it's constructed and be able to practice and produce it.
