Teach English in Changtian Zhen - Meizhou Shi
I found this unit challenging despite naturally using grammar in everyday speech. I know this unit is important to learn thoroughly and remember as grammar is an integral part of learning and teaching a language. I have learnt that this unit is mainly concerned with recognising and classifying parts of speech. I found the use of the examples given helpful in improving my understanding of English grammar. I have come to realise that it is highly likely students learning English will find the rules for articles particularly tricky and therefore I will need to be confident when teaching them. I will need to revise transitive and intransitive verbs more closely, as well as, verb forms. I also realise it is necessary to learn the irregular verbs. Clearly I also need to understand auxiliary verbs; do, have, and be are important because they are often used to help form tenses. Although I already knew adverbs add meaning or information to the action in a sentence I didn't realise there were so many types of adverbs e.g. manner, place, time, degree and frequency. I will need to be confident about placing adverbs in a sentence correctly particularly if there are multiple adverbs. I have learnt more about pronouns that are used instead of more precise nouns or noun phrases. When teaching English to non-native speakers I now understand that it easy for them to confuse subject pronouns with object pronouns. I will need to revise pronouns further. I am confident in my understanding of conjunctions. However, I now realise prepositions will be a challenge for both myself and students. I found the tasks at the end of the unit were helpful and practical because they tested if I could identify types of grammar within sentences. During the course I will use this unit for future reference and to revise my knowledge of grammar.
