Teach English in Zhensheng Zhen - Maoming Shi
This unit concerned the future tenses and, in addition to covering the four usual aspects to tenses (simple, continuous, perfect, perfect continuous), discussed other common ways that future tense can be expressed, describing seven different forms of future tense overall. As with all of the tense units so far, this unit covered the form and usage of the tenses, common errors encountered in the classroom, and activities that can provide opportunities for practicing the tense in question. As with all of the tense units, this unit was illuminating. Although I use the future tense easily and intuitively in conversation, and I would have been able to identify a tense broadly as \"future tense,\" I would not have been able to differentiate between different future tenses and their distinct uses. Even after encountering present tenses and past tenses, and familiarizing myself with the four aspects of tenses, I would not have known what to do with the future use of \"going to,\" present simple, or present continuous. After familiarizing myself with this unit, I do not have any trouble differentiating between tenses and describing their forms. The one area I need to continue to work in is in describing and distinguishing between the uses of the different tenses. There are two sides to this. First, I often do not recall all of the uses of a given tense, frequently remembering only one or two common uses. Second, even if I had all the uses memorized, I would still have difficulty in describing the uses in simple, non-technical terms to a low-level English speaker. I plan on continuing to review, memorize, and practice these tenses. This unit, along with the unit on present tenses and that on past tenses, have provided a very helpful, concise, and simple resource as I work on mastering the common forms of the different tenses.
