Teach English in Yangjiao Zhen - Maoming Shi
This unit covers equipment and teaching aids that may be used by EFL teachers in the classroom. Fifteen different resources are laid out and explained in the material provided in the unit. Some examples of each are also given. The very first example given is \"the board\" which may be a chalkboard or whiteboard or even a flip chart. This is a resource that is provided in almost any classroom. I learned about Interactive Whiteboards or IWBs in this unit. We did not have this type of technology when I was a student. As the unit teaches us, it is important to undergo training in order to learn how to properly and successfully use this equipment in the classroom. I would certainly need this training, should I be placed in a school that offers such technology. The overhead projector is something that I am very familiar with, as it was used in multiple classes that I was in as a student. I think this would be a useful resource. However, it would be imperative, as the unit states, that the classroom is large enough and is conducive to a projector setup. Some of the other resources explained in this section include: dictionaries, cassette tapes, CDs, worksheets and visual aids, among others. Computers are also listed as a resource, but because they are costly, it is not often that one may find them readily available in the EFL classroom. Often times, there will not be enough computers for the amount of students in the classroom. But they are a helpful tool when it comes to using it them as a source for videos, emails, word processor and even podcasts, in order to assist in teaching a course lesson. Finally, this unit gave pages of online resources and links that may be helpful to an EFL student or teacher. I look forward to looking further into some of these resources and pulling useful information from them.
