Teach English in Xintong Zhen - Maoming Shi
This unit focused on different teaching methodologies, this includes; Grammar translation, audio legalism, presentation, practice and production, task based learning, communicative language teaching, community language learning, the silent way, suggestopedia and the lexical approach. Each of these methods has both positives and negative features; I believe that each method can be used in the classroom as long as the teacher knows how each method fit a particular classroom especially as it relates to their level of fluency because what works for one set of student may not necessarily work for another set of students. Engage, study and activate is also a method used in teaching, this includes Eliciting. I have learnt that Eliciting is one of the best methods in teaching because it allows students to express themselves in the language being studied and it also allows teachers to get a better understanding of what their student knows and don?t know as it relates to learning the language. When using the elicitation method, teachers have to keep in mind the culture in which they are teaching, they also have to be aware of how they respond to incorrect answers when trying to elicit correct information from their students. It is always important to motivate students even when they are not doing well in the lesson so as to keep them interested and excited to learn the language. There are many ways to elicit information from students theses includes but not limited to using flashcards, asking questions miming and playing games. In the Engage stage of the lesson teachers use different methods to make the course exciting and fun for the students, in the Study phase, students focus more on the construction of the information being studied while in the Activate stage students are encouraged to use all the information they know.
