Teach English in Tongqing Zhen - Maoming Shi
ANY SECOND LANGUAGE TEACHER HAS TO TEACH THEIR STUDENTS THE 4 LANGUAGE SKILLS WHICH ARE: LISTENING, SPEAKING, READING, AND WRITING. THESE CAN BE DIVIDED IN 2 GROUPS: RECEPTIVE SKILLS (LISTENING AND READING) AND PRODUCTIVE SKILLS (SPEAKING AND WRITING). THIS LESSON FOCUSES ON THE RECEPTIVE SKILLS. WHY DO WE READ AND LISTEN? WE DO THAT FOR A PURPOSE OR FOR LEISURE OR BOTH. IN ORDER TO TEACH RECEPTIVE SKILLS, WE HAVE TO KNOW TO IDENTIFY THE READING AND LISTENING SKILLS, IN OTHER WORDS THE ABILITY TO PROCESS THE MEANING OF A LANGUAGE INSIDE OUR MIND. . WE TALK ABOUT DETAILED SKILLS WHEN REFERRING TO READ AND LISTEN IN ORDER TO UNDERSTAND EVERY THING; SKINNY SKILLS WHEN WE HAVE A GENERAL IDEA OF THE MEANING; SCANNING SKILLS WHEN WE ARE CONCENTRATED IN SOME PARTICULAR INFORMATION; PREDICTIVE SKILLS ARE THE ABILITIES TO UNDERSTAND THE MEANING JUST READING AN HEADLINE FOR EXAMPLE AND DEDUCTIVE SKILLS WHEN WE ARE ABLE TO GO OVER THE LITERALLY MEANING OF THE WORDS. BEFORE TEACHING OUR STUDENTS THESE SKILLS WE HAVE TO AVOID SOME COMMON PROBLEMS THAT CAN ARISE DURING THE LESSONS. FIRST AF ALL WE HAVE TO LET THE STUDENTS UNDERSTAND THAT YOU DON'T PRETEND TO KNOW ALL SINGLE WORD. IN ADDICTION A GOOD AND SENSITIVE TEACHER SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO THE LENGTH OF THE SENTENCES AND TO THE STRUCTURE. FROM THE LISTENING POINT OF YOU, SOME COMMON PROBLEMS REGARD THE FACT THAT WHEN WE LISTEN TO SOMETHING THE WORDS MOVE LIKE A FLOW AND THIS IMPLIES THAT WE LOSE MANY OF THESE WORDS; ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THE SPELLING AND THE ACCENT. IN ORDER TO AVOID ALL THESE PROBLEMS, A SENSITIVE TEACHER SHOULD PAY ATTENTION TO THE TEXT, TO THE TOPICS (THE TEACHER SHOULD KNOW VERY WELL THE STUDENTS IN ORDER TO FIND AND VARY THE TOPICS THAT HAVE TO BE VERY INTERESTED FOR ALL THE STUDENTS), TO THE TASKS ACTIVITIES TO ENGAGE STUDENTS AND LET TEACHER TO CHECK UNDERSTANDING.
