There are basic rules to follow with Models.They don't mean a great deal on their own and they don't change like other verbs do. The complete list is: can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, ought, will, would. When you put Modal verbs into a sentence they go between the subject, such as 'you' and 'we' and the main verb. Modals are used to explain ideas is: Obligation - I must take the dog for a walk. Possibility/probability - I might go to exercise class tomorrow. Permission/prohibition - Of course you can go. Ability -I can dance on pointe. Advice - You should go to that movie. There are many teaching ideas for the student to engage in. Role plays are an excellent way for the students to act out and learn to use Modals. The same teaching aids work well teaching Phrasal verbs and Passive voice. Also giving out lessons with sentences that the students need to complete or fill in blank spaces are a good learning tool. Quiz games are another good aid and students enjoy the interaction with each other. I have learnt about Clauses and that there are three categories of these. Independent clause - complete sentence. Contains a main subject and a verb. Dependant clause - not complete.Connected to an independent clause. Relative clause - modifies a noun. Gives further information about a noun. Can also be referred to an adjective clause. With Phrasal verbs there are three basic types: Intransitive - can't be followed by a direct object. Transitive separable - an object pronoun can come between the verb and the particle. Transitive inseparable - the object phrase or object pronoun come after the particle. As a teacher it us important to try to teach the students Phrasal verbs in as natural way as possible during the lessons. This can be achieved with practice using conversations with the students so that they become more familiar with using the words. Important as always to keep lessons interesting and fun.
