This unit helps take you through the steps for creating a simple lesson plan. Lesson plans in general is an aid to planning, a working document, and is also used as a record for what the class has done, materials used, and helps substitute teachers run the class when the primary teacher is not present. If I were to create my own lesson plan, the language point would be consolidation of object vocabulary to introduce nouns to second graders. Size of class is 7. Objective would be that by the end of the class the students will be able to identify nouns. Personal aim would getting the students to stay interested and focused. Anticipated problem for myself would be keeping the class concentrated on the subject. Solution would be interesting engage phase, simple study phase, and fun activate phase. Students may have a hard time pronouncing words and staying focused being that they are seven years of age. Solution will be fun pictures, having each child participate which will keep them interested, and lastly a game/arts and crafts. Engage phase, I will show a picture to the class of someone at a picnic. I will briefly give examples of what the person brought with them in the picture. I will ask the class what kinds of food/materials they would want to bring to a picnic then write the nouns on the board. Explain to the class that all of these items are called nouns. I would drill and highlight the vocabulary. Then I would hand out coloring material and have the class only color in in the pictures that are objects. There will be verb/actions in the pictures which I will cover the next day. Activate phase, the class and I will have a make believe picnic and we will draw objects on one or two pieces of paper. I will bring in a blanket and the class will meet on the floor after the activity. At the end of the drawing each child will show what they brought to the picnic. I may hand out a little treat at the end as well!
