Teach English in BaoguAng Jiedao - Maoming Shi
IN THIS CHAPTER WE HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED TO A LOT OF GRAMMAR! WE STARTED WITH MODAL VERBS AND THEIR USAGE IN DIFFERENT SITUATION (OBLIGATION, KINDNESS, PERMISSION, ABILITY, SUGGESTION, AND SO ON). IN ORDER TO TEACH MODAL VERBS, CAN BE USEFUL ROLE PLAY JUST TO CREATE REAL AND DIFFERENT CONTEXT TO PRACTICE DIFFERENT MODAL VERBS. THEN WE HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED TO PASSIVE VOICE AND WE HAVE LEARNED ABOUT STRUCTURE IN PRESENT, PAST AND FUTURE SENTENCES.WE RECUR TO PASSIVE VOICE WHEN SOMETHING IS NOT KNOWN, OR IS NOT IMPORTANT OR WE DON'T WANT TO SAY. WHEN THE SPEAKER OR THE WRITER WANTS TO LET SOMEBODY ELSE TO KNOW WHO PERFORMS THE ACTION, HE/SHE HAS TO USE \"BY\". THE OTHER TWO TOPICS OF THIS LESSON HAVE BEEN THE RELATIVE CLAUSES AND PHRASAL VERBS. RELATIVE CLAUSES ARE INTRODUCED BY A RELATIVE PRONOUN (WHO, WHICH, THAT, WHOM, WHOSE)AND THEY CAN BE DIVIDED IN 2 TYPES: DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSES WHICH CARRY ON ESSENTIAL INFORMATION AT THE MEANING OF THE SENTENCE; THE NO DEFINING ONES, INSTEAD, DO NOT CARRY ON ANY ESSENTIAL INFORMATION A THE MEANING. COMMAS ARE CRITICAL IN NO DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSE. AT THE END OF THE LESSON WE HAVE STUDIED THE THREE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PHRASAL VERBS: INTRANSITIVE, TRANSITIVE SEPARABLE AND TRANSITIVE INSEPARABLE PHRASAL VERBS. A PHRASAL VERB IS COMPOSED BY A VERB FOLLOWED BY ONE OR MORE PARTICLES (AN ADVERB OR AN PREPOSITION OR AN ADVERB + PREPOSITION). THE FIRST TYPE IS NOT FOLLOWED BY A DIRECT OBJECT. THE OTHER TWO TYPES ARE FOLLOWED BY AN OBJECT. THE MAIN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SECOND AND THIRD TYPE IS THAT IN THE TRANSITIVE SEPARABLE THE OBJECT CAN BE A NOUN OR A PRONOUN AND THESE CAN BE PLACED BETWEEN THE VERB AND THE PARTICLE. WHEN THE OBJECT IS A NOUN, ITS POSITION CAN MOVE AFTER THE PARTICLE TO. IN THE THIRD TYPE THE OBJECT CAN BE A PRONOUN OR A PHRASAL OBJECT AND THEY ALWAYS HAVE BE PLACED AFTER THE PARTICLE. ONLY THE THIRD TYPE OF PHRASAL VERB CAN BE ALSO COMPOSED BY TWO PARTICLES.
