Planning detailed lessons may not always be a strict requirement for experienced teachers who may want only loose notes for their records. However, for an inexperienced teacher, lesson plans can be an invaluable guide and tool that can be used to order their activities, ensure educational goals are being met and identify areas of deficiency and concern, for both them and students, which can then be addressed with the necessary improvements. Inexperienced teachers may be more inclined to produce detailed lesson plans but it is important to remember that a lesson plan isn't a script and that teachers must respond flexibly to their students' needs, therefore some planned activities may need to be cancelled or revised. For example, if for some reason students present with some unexpected difficulty in understanding some new grammar point, activate activities that require a detailed understanding of this grammar will have to be postponed till the next class. Of course, between these classes the teacher has to come up with some method or exercise that can clarify the difficulties students are having so that they can complete the pending activities and move forward along the curriculum.
