Unit 14 was a unit I felt I could identify well with. A full-time teacher myself, I understand the importance of using a wide range of materials and resources. My own students welcome this variety, and planning and delivering your lessons in this way maximises the effect of the lesson. Students are more engaged, motivated and focused. Over the course of my own teaching practice, I have developed a bank of resources that I can use over and over again, e.g. laminated games such as bingo, snakes and ladders, storyboard sequence pictures and puzzle pieces. Advances to technology can also be used to supplement teaching materials. You Tube videos, online learning games and software such as Powerpoint/Google Drive are examples of materials I use/create in the classroom. Course book materials also have their place in the curriculum and I do use them from time to time. I feel these materials are most beneficial when providing a guideline for Teachers, especially to ensure that language learning goals are met and that there is full coverage of the knowledge and skills required during the unit. I will certainly benefit from this guidance when I begin teaching English as a foreign language.
