Unit Three provides an excellent overview of various English teaching techniques. There are a number of methodologies that can be employed to teach English as a Foreign Language, some of which are traditional and not very popular or useful and some of which are more modern and generally more helpful in the classroom. It is necessary to select the appropriate techniques for a particular class based on the teachers own skills and the cultural background of the class. A general technique that is widely accepted and proven to be useful is known as \"engage, study, and activate.\" In the \"engage\" stage the students are involved in an enjoyable activity that creates an unstressed and receptive mood. In the \"study\" stage the students participate in a focused activity designed to cover the content of the lesson. Often worksheets are employed. In the \"activate\" stage the students use the language or material they have previously studied in a more free-form setting. Lessons can be arranged in many ways from from straight arrow to patchwork. Unit Three also provides many examples of activities that can be used in teaching and suggestions about how and when to correct computers.
