Through this unit I was able to learn about the purpose of different activities and drills I've learned to do in the past. In the speaking section they talked about working with the students on both accuracy and fluency. In accuracy, the purpose is to teach them and reinforce the grammar you've learned and how to properly apply it when they're speaking. Therefore, drills and controlled activities are useful in order to teach the students accuracy. The unit defines fluency activities allow the students to use what they have learned creatively, with less emphasis on on accuracy. Ergo, games and communication exercises are useful in allows students to more freely use the language they have learned. The writing section discusses important elements to teach the students and constantly reinforce, such as spelling, handwriting, punctuation, and the layout. It then goes on to talk about creative writing, and how it allows students the freedom to think for themselves and provides them with a sense of pride when it's finished. The unit then goes on to provide a sample creative writing lesson using the ESA method, something I will again reference when I'm lesson planning in the future.
